I visited Braemar last in 2007 and would recommend it as a excellent base for exploring and hiking. The situation is terrific with many good walks accesible without the need of a car. The local golf course is excellent although the professional on staff when I was there was very explosive...hope he hasn't come down with a stroke or a coronary thrombosis.

What a wonderful place to visit. . . We stayed at the Fife Arms Hotel, first class hospitality, the village itself is very picturesque with interesting highland shops and fayre. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with plenty of mountain and river walks. The golf course can be found along the Old Military Road which in itself is a very pleasant walk. You can take a short drive through to the Linn of Dee a favourite spot of Queen Victoria, well worth the visit.
