Notting Hill

Long before Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant’s hit romantic comedy, Notting Hill was famous for its annual street carnival when parades swing to a Caribbean rhythm in one of the biggest street carnivals in Europe. With box-office success, real-estate prices in Notting Hill soared and it quickly became a trendy neighbourhood with small, expensive shops and fashionable little cafés. For the tourist, the real attraction is the Portobello Road market which has drawn crowds since 1837. Every Saturday, the street is swamped by antique bargain hunters. But with over 2,000 stalls to chose from there’s something for everyone with cash to spend, from handmade crafts, to ethnic goods, bone china, cosmetic jewellery and an overabundant source of London souvenirs to take back home with you.
